Child Sexual Abuse Statistics

  • 38% of girls are sexually abused before the age of 18
  • 16% of boys are sexually abused before the age of 18
  • In most cases, the child knew the sex offender. 
  • With girls, 29% were relatives and 60% were acquaintances.  With boys, 16 % were relatives and 44% were acquaintances. 
  • Children who grow up in a family where there is domestic violence are eight times more likely to be sexually molested within that a family.
  •  68% of incest survivors were adult victims of rape or attempted rape by a non-relative at some point in their lives. 
  • Women who reported childhood rape were three times more likely to become pregnant before age 18
  • 70 to 80% of sexual abuse survivors report excessive use of drugs and alcohol.
  • It is estimated that there are 60 million survivors of childhood sexual abuse in America today.
  • Approximately 95% of teenage prostitutes have been sexually abused.

Sexual Assault Statistics

  • 25% of females are raped at some time in their lives
  • 75% of rape victims knew the person who assaulted them
  • 29% of rape victims were under age 11.  32% were 11 to 17.  22% were 18 to 24
  • 46% of rape victims considered or attempted suicide
  • 7% of rape victims became pregnant or contracted a sexually transmitted disease
  • 40% of rapists were under age 25

 

AMA's National Advisory Council on Family Violence

  • 250,000 - 500,000 pedophiles reside in the U.S.   U.S. Department of Justice
  • Convicted child molesters who abuse girls had an average of 52 victims each
  • Men who molested boys had an astonishing average of 150 victims National Institute of Mental Health study
  • 2/3 of sex offenders currently in state prisons sexually assaulted children under the age of 18 FBI
  • Sexual assault continues to represent the most rapidly growing violent crime in America, claiming a victim every 4 seconds.  Over 61% of female victims are under the age of 18.
  • Violent child victimizers were more likely than adult victimizers to have been physically or sexually abused when they were children.

Prevent Abuse Now

  • About 60% of male survivors sampled reported at least one of their perpetrators to be female.
     
  • It is estimated that approximately 71% of child sex offenders are under 35 and knew the victim at least casually. 
  • About 80% fall within normal intelligence ranges. 
  • 59% gain sexual access to their victims through seduction or enticement.
