Jan's Bio & Book

Jan Morrison is the founder and president of Tree of Rest, Inc., an Illinois non-profit service and teaching organization founded in 1986 to promote healing from sexual abuse for victims and families of victims and communities and churches affected by abuse.  As a result of her abuse and God's work in her life, Jan authored A Safe Place: Beyond Sexual Abuse published in 1990 and winner of the 1991 Campus Life book of the year award in the category of Teen Issues.
A national spokeswoman for spiritual and emotional healing of sexual abuse victims, Jan leads training conferences for high schools, civic organizations, churches and parachurch organizations such as Christian camps and orphanages.  She also conducts training for law enforcement and private psychiatric groups and hospital staffs.
Speaking engagements range from guest lecturing at such institutions as Colorado Christian University, Trinity College, and Regent University to presenting for the International Congress on Christian Counseling as well as keynote and plenary addresses for groups such as the Coalition Against the Sexual Abuse of Children and the National Association of Christian Counselors.

Jan's latest book, A Safe Place: A Guide to Living Beyond Sexual Abuse is a revised and updated rewrite with new materials and a integrated workbook designed to lead teen readers to their own safe place as they learn from The Truth Teller, think through the Consider This sections and answer the questions included in each chapter.

Jan is also an advocate with the legal and judicial systems and the professional community for churches that are confronted with sexual abuse perpetrated by a church staff or volunteer worker.  She has also developed a program for churches which equips congregations to deal with all those affected by sexual abuse ranging from helping the family going through the legal system to working with perpetrators and their spouses.
In addition to the above, Jan spends months at a time in Israel at the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem, where she works with the media department helping with the daily international web news service and the eight day Feast of Tabernacles celebration hosted annually by the embassy.
Rapha, Dawson McAllister's Shepherd Ministries, and Young Life are among the groups that endorse Jan.  She has been the radio guest of, among others, Josh McDowell, Dawson McAllister and Rich Buehler.  Television appearances include Trinity Broadcasting's Praise the Lord and Joy and ACTS Network's COPE.

Jan is the mother of two sons and the grandmother of two grandsons.  When she is not traveling for work, she enjoys traveling for pleasure, reading, horseback riding and hiking.
